MUSIC FOR

THE SOUL

Am I alone in thinking that when listening to songs in a particular mood it's not just the happy upbeat ones that lift you, even the deep ones can offer some comfort. Sometimes although a melody can be lamenting with a sorrowful tone, for some reason it resonates - it's lyrics & melancholyness often whispers to you like a lullaby. It encapsulates the way you are or were feeling at a point in your life; despite maybe ironically describing the hurt and pain you felt at the time and putting it into words. For me the unexpected feel good vibes despite the sadness comes from the fact that whoever was able to put my heartbreak to music - whether in love, life or loss must have felt what I felt and that I am not alone and not only that but they've somehow put my feelings perfectly into words which validate my feelings of pain and confusion.....We all need a  a little upbeat and funky at times but it's good to know we are not alone and that there is even comfort and camaraderie in the sad times when they are shared and although we shouldn't dwell too long, there is nothing wrong in feeling and embracing a little of that sadness every now and then  - below are some of my favourite go to's, good or bad a song fits a mood  X

THREE LITTLE BIRDS

Bob Marley

"Don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"

Deep Purple

When a Blind Man Cries

If you're leaving close the door.
I'm not expecting people anymore.
Hear me grieving, I'm lying on the floor.
Whether I'm drunk or dead I really ain't too sure.

I'm a blind man, I'm a blind man and my world is pale.
When a blind man cries, Lord, you know there ain't no sadder tale.

Had a friend once in a room,
Had a good time but it ended much too soon.
In a cold month in that room
We found a reason for the things we had to do.

I'm a blind man, I'm a blind man, now my room is cold.
When a blind man cries, Lord, you know he feels it from his soul.

RISE UP

Andra Day

And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you

WONDERFUL LIFE

Black

"No need to run and hide
It's a wonderful, wonderful life
No need to laugh and cry
It's a wonderful, wonderful life"...

ORDINARY WORLD

Duran Duran

"But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive..."

GARY MOORE

Parisian Walkways

SEVEN SPANISH ANGELS

Willie Nelson & Ray Charles

"There were seven Spanish angels
At the altar of the sun
They were prayin' for the lovers
In the valley of the gun
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared
There was thunder from the throne
And seven Spanish angels
Took another angel home.."

PRETTIEST EYES

The Beautiful South

"Lets take a look at these crows feet, just look
Sitting on the prettiest eyes
Sixty 25th of Decembers
Fifty-nine 4th of Julys
You can't have too many good times, children
You can't have too many lines
Take a good look at these crows feet
Sitting on the prettiest eyes..."

IF I COULD BE WHERE YOU ARE

Enya

"Where are you this moment?
Only in my dreams
You're missing, but you're always
A heartbeat from me
I'm lost now without you
I don't know where you are
I keep watching, I keep hoping
But time keeps us apart..."
